Am I eligible to vote in Illinois?

US Citizen

You must be a US citizen to vote in federal and state elections.

Age 18 by Election Day

You can register and vote if you turn 18 on or before March 17, 2026.

Illinois Resident

You must live in Illinois and plan to remain through Election Day.

Felony Record

You can vote in Illinois if you are not currently incarcerated. Parole and probation do not affect your right to vote.

How to register

Register online (fastest)
Go to ova.elections.il.gov. You will need your Illinois driver's license or state ID number, or the last four digits of your Social Security number. Takes about 3 minutes. Deadline passed — use same-day registration instead.

Register by mail
Download and mail the registration form to your county clerk. Mail deadline passed — register in person or same-day instead. Download the form.

Register in person
Visit your county clerk's office or any early voting site. Bring your Illinois ID or two documents showing your name and current address. In-person registration deadline passed. Same-day registration still available on Election Day and at early voting sites through March 16.

Same-day registration on Election Day
If you missed all deadlines, you can still register and vote at your polling place on March 17. Bring two forms of ID, one showing your current address.
